INDIGO CHILDREN’S FUND - PROJECTS FOR CONSIDERATION

Jeevanshala – School Of Life - Budget: $50,000

Transforming a truly unsafe building into a thriving and sustainable learning environment with kitchen, dormitory and classrooms for hundreds of local children.

A community-led school and dormitory project, serving the children in and around Sawaryadigar Village in Maharashtra, India.

The project places local ownership at its heart, empowering the community to lead the reconstruction and renovation process while investing in the future of its children.

This will be the first ICF project in India, we know the teams well, the project will be headed up by our trusted partner Building Trust International (BTI) with whom we have completed many projects all on time and budget around Asia.

Geographically this project is less than half a day travel from Kathmandu, so not only do we have BTI we also have our teams in Nepal who will oversee and help with reporting.

If the ICF team gives approval then we can begin this project towards the end of the month, the ideal time to begin weather wise.

This really is a fantastic project, with a great deal of effort having already been put in by the community. It will be life changing for so many kids whose education so far has been in an unsafe building that is not fit for purpose.

A safe happy place for hundreds of children for years to come.

New Road Extension for GED Classrooms and Library/Resource Centre – Budget: £30,000

This project will expand our already highly successful school that currently provides education to more than 300 Burmese migrant children.

Funding will support the construction of additional GED classrooms (a qualification vital in helping the children gain access to Thai universities). With a library and resource centre, enabling the school to meet growing demand and provide continued educational opportunities for its students.

The expansion will allow more young people, many having escaped conflict in Burma, to gain the qualifications required to access scholarship opportunities at Thai universities, opening life-changing pathways to higher education and future employment.

This project will ensure that these opportunities can continue to grow and reach even more vulnerable young people.

The school is such a beautiful happy place, a huge part of the community and has changed the lives of so many Burmese migrant children, it would be fantastic to see it grow.

We will be working with the original school construction team with whom we have a great relationship.

We are ready to begin this project if and when approval is granted.
