In July 2016 we broke ground on a new school for children who had previously attended the Shivalaya School in Laharepauwa VDC which was destroyed in the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015.

The new school was completed in February 2017 and was officially opened and inaugurated in March 2017. The building is a very bright and happy place and we wish the children all the very best for the future.

This area was significantly impacted by the 2015 earthquake, there were 597 casualties and 54 deaths including many children. For the size of the area this is a very high concentration of incidents when compared with the rest of the country.

The school was completely destroyed and the children had nowhere to learn. There were a significant number of children experiencing mental health issues resulting from their traumatic experiences during and after the earthquake.

Rebuilding the school not only provides a place for the children to learn but also a central location for the children to meet and begin the healing process with the help of professionals.
